OBITARY

Steven James Elder, 60, of La Crosse died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center of a heart attack. He was born Jan. 25, 1950, to Leigh and Vernice (Arnston) Elder at La Crosse Lutheran Hospital. Steven attended Lincoln Junior High and Central High School before enlisting in the US Navy. He served his country from 1969 to 1972 aboard the U.S.S. Strong in the Mediterranean. After an honorable discharge, Steven traveled to Florida to work and live with his older brother, Glenn. Steven loved fishing and hunting and spent numerous hours with family and friends planning their next adventure.

Steven is survived by a son, Benjamin; a daughter, Nina; a sister, Lynn Schirm; two brothers, Leigh (Janis) Elder and Brian Elder; nieces, Jill (Jeff) Johnson, Jennifer Schirm and Amanda Elder; and nephews, Greg (Tracy) Schirm, Daniel (Erin) Elder, Derrick Elder and Joshua Elder.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Glenn.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Grove Cemetery. Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements
